Mr. Hubbard's Departure

When did Mr. Hubbard pass away?

Mr. Hubbard passed away in 1986. Fingerprint records were used to verify this, a fact reported in the media at the time.

Right up until his passing, Mr. Hubbard led an active and productive life, continuing his research into the mind and the nature of man and regularly driving around his 100 plus-acre California ranch taking an active interest in the improvements being made to the property.

As one of the workmen on the ranch who knew him for the last two years of his life wrote:

“Our first meeting was typical of the next two years. Mr. Hubbard was always very friendly and very interested in what was going on on the property and how we were doing. We had literally scores of projects, jobs to be done and Mr. Hubbard was there at the beginning, middle and end of a project, regardless of the weather. It didn’t matter if it was raining or bright and sunny, Mr. Hubbard would be out and about, asking questions, striking up conversations and taking photographs.”

“Mr. Hubbard was always clean and well-dressed. Like most of us, he wore a hat. He always had a camera with him. He took many pictures of me driving the tractor and welding and doing other work around the property.”

As a measure of his high level of production in the latter years of his life, during the 1980s, in addition to supervising the many projects at his ranch, Mr. Hubbard wrote eleven novels – all of which were New York Times bestsellers – 50 original stories for films to introduce people to Scientology, two film scripts, the lyrics to an album of Scientology songs, and a common sense moral code which has now been distributed to more than 65 million people. He also completed his life’s work – his research into the spiritual nature of man.

Moreover, L. Ron Hubbard remains a very popular author whose works have been translated into 65 languages, more than any other author.
