Scientology Today

Is Scientology expanding across the world?

Yes. Scientology is growing very rapidly. In 1990, there were 832 churches, missions and groups in 70 nations. This figure has become 6,065 churches, missions and groups in 159 nations in 2006.

In the last year or so, churches of Scientology purchased 1.2 million square feet of new facilities on five continents with which to establish ideal orgs. An auditing session began every 10 seconds, of every day, in 94 languages for a grand total of 3,638,000 sessions.

There are now Scientologists on advanced levels of auditing from the Philippines, Russia, India and China -- and at the most advanced level, in Pakistan, South Korea and other formerly closed countries. The volume of auditing just in this band alone was 2.9 million hours in 2005 -- a rate of expansion three times greater than the entire preceding decade.

Most recently, churches have established new facilities in Tampa, Florida; Johannesburg, South Africa; San Francisco, California; Buffalo, New York; Madrid, Spain; New York, Los Gatos, California; Mountain View, California; and San Jose, California.

Photographs of the openings of our new churches can be seen on www.rtc.org/en_US/board/pg003.html. The Church’s own site also provides a lot of information at www.scientology.org.

In the aftermath of the Southeast Asian Tsunami, close to 500 Volunteer Ministers from 11 nations helped more than a third of a million people in the regions affected. In return, national leaders of Indonesia, India and Thailand commended them for their services.

Most recently, 500 volunteer ministers responded to Louisiana and Mississippi in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, being the first operational relief force on site.

In all, our volunteer ministers have helped more than 6 million people since 9/11, and more than 65,000 active members of the Volunteer Minister Corps are on call at any time for any situation.
